Rainbow and sunset

Rainbow and sunset

[시사타임즈 = 이철원 시사타임즈 회장] In Leyte, squalls often fell to cool the scorching tropical heat, just as a cool shower cools the heated earth when you are tired of the midsummer heat. After a horrendous rain shower without notice, the scorching sun rose again as if it had rained, and the moisture gathered in the earth, creating a rainbow of colors that seemed to be caught in the palm of one's hand.

The rainbow here without air pollution was as vivid as a rainbow at the mouth of a rural village that I remembered as a child. It was a scenery that naturally reminded me of a beautiful statue with a godly prayer even without anyone talking about it. A month after being dispatched, a double rainbow, said to bring good luck, rose brilliantly on the left and right sides of the camp's main gate. Many soldiers saw the rainbow and looked forward to the good news that would come to the troops, and before the double rainbow disappeared, they were busy pressing their cell phone cameras to capture the beautiful sight.

In the Bible, just as the rainbow is God's promise that “the world will never be judged by water again”, the double rainbow that came to the unit felt like God's promise to inform the successful mission of the unit. Watching the rainbow, I prayed for the successful completion of the unit's mission and the safe return of all the soldiers, and took a picture of it and sent it to several acquaintances. Like a messenger of hope, the photos of the double rainbow that I sent to my acquaintances returned to me with beautiful words of encouragement.

As time passed, the scenery that seemed so unfamiliar gradually became familiar and came to me beautifully. As I looked around the camp every dawn, the red dawn I encountered made me feel her mystery beyond beauty.

As I watched the morning sunset created by the red sunlight that was not enough to completely wash away the darkness in the camp where the soft sea fog was lying low, I felt ashamed and humbled myself without realizing it. On the other hand, the setting sun, which is neither red nor yellow, burns out all the thoughts that have arisen in my mind during the day. It was as if I was watching a short sunset that burns and soon turns into darkness, burning and disappearing like a flame in my heart. Just as sunlight meets water droplets in the air to create a beautiful five-colored rainbow, and the sunset meets clouds to make a red glow, people also need to face adversity and hardships in their lives to know the true meaning and joy of life.
