The completion ceremony that became a village festival

The completion ceremony that became a village festival

[시사타임즈 = 이철원 시사타임즈 회장] When I was young, when an athletic meet was held in a rural elementary school, all the villagers participated. The children had their own hard-working sports day, and the villagers used to sit together after a long time to sip food and drink, and it became a village feast. Most of the villagers are parents or families sending their children to elementary school, so it was natural to attend the elementary school sports day.

I wanted to make the completion ceremony a village feast to give joy to the villagers who are grieving due to the typhoon damage after a long time and to provide a ‘place of festival’. This is because most of the residents with five or six children are parents with one or two children attending the elementary school, so the day the elementary school was completed was a happy day with special meaning for the residents.

Therefore, the completion ceremony was set as a festival day to celebrate the restoration of the school, and the Korean and Philippine military, teachers, students, and villagers who were in charge of the restoration work attended. In order to create a festive atmosphere, K-pop music was played and popcorn and slushies were provided.

At the completion ceremony, the school principal, student representatives, the Korean military, the Philippine military, and the mayor cut the tape, then the principal gave a speech, delivered a letter of appreciation, and awarded a scholarship.

Usually, when teachers or students performed a celebratory performance, in return for this, the Korean and Filipino soldiers danced cheerfully to K-pop or pop songs. Like all parents, when their children performed for celebrations, they were filled with laughter whether they did well or not.

After the completion ceremony, a small banquet was held to encourage Korean and Philippine soldiers. The small banquet became a feast for teachers, students and villagers as teachers and villagers started making traditional Filipino food to express their gratitude to the Korean and Philippine military. Although the food prepared by the teachers and villagers in their own homes was simple, the sincerity was more than any expensive food. Since the traditional food that residents eat on holidays was prepared with sincerity, our soldiers ate the prepared food with all their heart. And for those who can share simple but sincere affection and heart, I used to promise to work more passionately in recovery activities.
