Woman world
[시사타임즈 = 이철원 시사타임즈 회장] Although the Philippines is tolerant of sexual minorities such as “gay,” there is almost no gender discrimination against women. With the same concept as ‘Lady First’, they tend to prioritize and respect women and children.
According to the 2013 Gender Gap Report (Women's Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Achievement, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment) released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2013, Korea ranked 111th in the gender gap index among 136 countries in the world. The Philippines is ranked fifth after Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The high status of women is also due to the fact that the tradition of long-term matrilineal society, such as our 'filial piety', has maintained the custom of respecting women and children. They treat men and women equally without discrimination in all areas of society. Women rather lead the household and have higher responsibilities than men. When women reach the age of 15, most of them come to Manila and work as housekeepers, clerks, and babysitting jobs, sending more than half of their monthly salary to their families. Since English is the official language, there are many Filipino women who work as housekeepers in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Hong Kong. The foreign currency they remit to support their families is the main source of foreign currency income for the Philippine government.
On the other hand, if a woman reports that she has been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed because of such a high status, it is treated as a very important case and investigated, and sexual assault and rapists are strictly handled. Sometimes, when Korean men ignore the local maid and do a lot of work, they may harbor malice and make false accusations of sexual harassment. At this time, if you ignore the accusation that there is no fault or resolve it incorrectly, you will be banned from leaving the country, and you will have to accompany you at the airport voluntarily, and you will not be able to visit the Philippines again. In this case, if you give money just because you ask for a settlement amount, you will be admitting a crime, so you should definitely hire a lawyer. Therefore, if Korean men want to live in the Philippines, they should be careful knowing that there are many women who put them in such trouble. In Leyte, the Arau unit's operational area, public institutions such as city hall, education office, and electric power company seemed to have more than 70% of female employees, and many of the major agency heads met for the restoration project were women.
In Korea, President Park Geun-hye is the first female president, but the Philippines has already had a female president in 1986, and the second female president was elected in 2004. (Korea ranks 91st among 189 countries in the world with 15.7% female parliamentarians, and the Philippines ranks 27.3% 42nd) In particular, almost all of them in the education sector are women. Although the proportion decreases slightly as you go to upper secondary schools, more than 95% of elementary school teachers are women, and most of the principals are women. While restoring about 30 elementary schools, I met one male principal, but out of the 82 elementary schools in the actual operation area, only six were male. The superintendent of the 8 regional education offices in charge of the central Philippines, including Leyte, where we operate, was also a woman, and the director of the Institute of Science and Technology Education, which oversees the operation of vocational schools, was also a woman. Interestingly, sexual consciousness is more open than we are, and discrimination based on women's beauty seems to be much more severe than ours. If you visit a government office, you will find that ‘Most of the high-ranking women have fair skin (?) and are pretty.’
In Korea, if invisible discrimination based on gender works, it seems that invisible discrimination based on beauty is at work here. Around April, at the request of the superintendent of superintendent and school principals, Aarau Units attended the graduation ceremonies of 12 schools that were restored or planned to be restored, giving congratulatory speeches and awarding scholarships. Interestingly, the first-place graduates of the 12 schools were all female, and each school gave special awards up to the 10th place, and out of the total number of 120 recipients, only 10 were male. When I asked the governors and mayors, "Why do only women receive awards at graduation ceremonies?" they said, "Elementary school boys like to play, so they don't study except for a very small number of people."
And what was even more surprising was that, coincidentally, the girl who received the first prize in the order of appearance was the prettiest. I wondered if it was only reflected in my eyes. Most of the teachers are women and the principal is also a woman, so it was ironic that they were not selected by men, but the order of grades was pure beauty.
